Stephen is the Owner of Affordable Housing Kauai, LLC, specializing in Affordable Housing Development and Business Management Consulting.  Currently a Hawaii licensed General Builder “B” contractor, CT-37800

Stephen began his consulting career in 1988 working as Vice President of Finance and Programming for a software development and consulting company.  

In 1990 Stephen established Computer Solutions, specializing in financial system automation, software development, business systems analysis and system implementation.  As a consultant Stephen worked with a variety of for-profits, working in West Virginia, Georgia, the San Francisco Bay Area and on Kauai.

He also begin working with affordable housing companies such as Habitat for Humanity International working on three major projects between 1990 to 2007.  

Starting in 2007, Stephen spend thirteen years leading the growth of a non-profit affordable housing provider, Kauai Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (Habitat). In 2007 Habitat had four employees, a 1 million dollar budget and was producing five houses a year.  By the end of  2020 Habitat had twenty-five employees, a 8.5 million dollar budget and was producing thirty-one houses a year. In 2019 Kauai Habitat was ranked 42nd out of the 1,430 US Habitat Affiliates. In 2020 Kauai Habitat was ranked 25th.

Since 2020 Stephen is collaborating with for-profit and non-profit companies. His current focus is developing raw land into affordable housing lots and managing the construction of the affordable homes. See the Current Project page for details.

Non-profit Experience

Served as the Executive Director of Kauai Habitat for Humanity, Inc, a Non-Profit low-income home builder, from 2001-2002 and 2007 to February 2020.

Consulting History with Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI):

  • In 1990, Contracted by HFHI to make a recommendation whether to upgrade or replace the existing donor management computer software.
  • In 1991 converted data from the old accounting software program and installed and implemented the newly purchased accounting software package.
  • From January 1997 until March of 1998 contracted as the project manager for the needs assessment process, software search, software selection, data conversion and implementation for HFHI’s new accounting software that was still being used in 2019.
  • In 2005, Contacted to be the project manager to assess the current accounting processes, recommend improvements and designed a new flexible reporting system to provide financials for their 150 departments located in over 40 countries. Managed the implementation, trained staff and upgraded the accounting software to meet the new system design.
